Q&A: Cathay Pacific - Best seats for travelling couples
Published: 16/03/2011 RSS
I am going on my honeymoon in July and will be flying LAX-HKG in First on Cathay's 777-300LR aircraft. I'm wondering if you have any advice as to which seats are best for traveling couples.
Also, on the return, we are in business on the same aircraft. From what I have read, the new business class layout is not conducive to traveling couples. Are there any seat pairs that may be better than others and mitigate this issue? Thanks.
Thanks for getting in touch, and many congratulations! We’re sure you’ll have a wonderful time in Hong Kong.
Below is a link to the seating plan for your aircraft. As you’ll see, the First cabin is configured 1-1-1 in two rows, and no two are side-by-side. All we can recommend is that you go for two neighbouring seats, however you’ll always have an aisle between you. These first class flatbeds have an ottoman which doubles as a foot rest and a second seat, which is great if you wish to dine with your partner. The couple in the media image of the First class seat demonstrate this admirably.
As for your return leg, the herringbone layout is indeed unforgiving of the travelling couple’s desire to share each other’s company. There is little that can be done to get around this, I’m afraid, as the herringbone layout is well-known for affording a good level of privacy. The best you can do, again, is get neighbouring seats, though again there will be an aisle between you. Again, these seats have a small ottoman, however the tray table probably isn’t large enough to allow you to dine together, as with the First class seat.
I hope this has been of some help to you. Do let us know how you get on!
All the best,
