Q&A: Air France - Stairs on the A380

Published: 28/02/2011   RSS

Question

Does the upper deck have its own dedicated entry/exit doors without one having to negotiate up and down the spiral staircase at the rear of the cabin. Am flying JNB/CDG in May and returning in Oct 2011 in Economy class in a 2 seat configuration with my wife.

Many thanks,

James E Hillsdon

Answer

Dear James,

Yes, the A380 does have dedicated entry points on both decks and both CDG and Johannesburg have purpose-built piers to handle the A380. We are 99.9% certain that the new piers permit boarding on two levels as these buildings were designed specifically to permit speedy entry and exit and, to put it bluntly, so that first class doesn’t have to mix with economy.

We assume you are enquiring due to some form of restricted mobility. Unless you are very restricted, don’t worry too much about the staircase on the aircraft, as it is a wide and a gentle spiral. If you do have restricted mobility, contact Air France and they will take care of you.

Kind regards
