KLM is now taking bookings for its forthcoming Amsterdam to Aalesund (Norway) service starting on April 4 next year.

The twice daily (once a day on Saturdays) route will be operated by F70 twin-jets. Timings are geared entirely to passengers who are making either long or short-haul connections at KLM’s Schiphol hub.

But why Aalesund? As mentioned before, KLM’s home market is limited in scope so the Dutch carrier can only prosper by seeking new opportunities overseas.

With services to six airports (Oslo International, Oslo Torp, Kristiansand, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim), KLM is a major player in the Norwegian market. The addition of Aalesund will take that total to seven.

Aalesund (a town located about 120 miles northeast of Bergen) is known for its oil, shipping and fishing businesses. But its only serious link to the outside world comprises a six times a week SAS flight to Copenhagen, Scandinavia’s main overseas gateway.

So KLM’s new connection will provide travellers to and from Aalesund with easier access to the rest of Europe and beyond.

Flight timings are:

• Aalesund-Amsterdam KL1322 0630-0845 daily
• Aalesund-Amsterdam KL1326 1705-1915 daily ex Saturday
• Amsterdam-Aalesund KL1325 1425-1630 daily ex Saturday
• Amsterdam-Aalesund KL1327 2040-2245 daily
