Q&A: British Airways - Heathrow to Atlanta
Published: 17/05/2010 RSS
Question:
We have two seats on BA227 flight from Heathrow to Atlanta on 4 Oct 2010 - departing at 15.00 hrs – enhanced economy.
I am a nervous traveller and would like to see what seats we are booked in and change if they are not suitable. The travel agent that we booked with did not think this option was available any more?
Please can you advise

Seatplans.com replies:
Dear Derek,
According to our flight database, Flight BA227 is a Boeing B777-200. Here is the seating plan for your class (World Traveller Plus):
Please check your seat number and refer to this. As you can see, WTP is in rows 18, 19 and 20.
As for changing your seat, it should still be possible for you to do it yourself, in two ways. Go to ba.com, and choose ‘manage my booking’ from the top menu bar. Here you’ll be asked to enter your e-ticket booking reference (you be able to get this from your travel agent, it’ll be a series of six letters and numbers e.g. DF873G), and your last name. Check the paperwork from your travel agent, if you see the six figure booking reference you should not have to contact them again, and you can do everything online yourself.
Once you enter these details it should give you the option of reviewing your flight details, including a way of changing your seat assuming it hasn’t been done already by your travel agent (I am unsure whether seats can be changed twice). Please be aware that you may have to pay extra to do this, but it can be done at any time between now and October.
The other way is when you come to check-in online. This can only be done 24 hours before departure, but it is normally free of charge. Of course leaving it that late means you’re less likely to get the seat you want.
DW replies:
An update as promised.
We did not get any further with regard to the seating. Apparently we need an e number which will not be issued presumably until we pay the final balance. I would guess that by that time, because there are so few seats allocated to World Traveler Plus, there will be no option to move anyway.
Seatplans.com:
You may be surprised at how many seats remain unallocated until the day of the flight. Seats are only allocated when a passenger pays for advanced reservation, or checks in either online themselves or at the airport desk prior to departure.
Seating allocation via online check-in is only available free of charge less than 24-hours before departure. Having to pay for it any earlier usually puts people off, which again is good news for you.
DW replies:
Just a little more information as we have been informed that we will not have the e ticket number issued until 12 weeks before we go and the tickets two weeks before we fly (in case there are any changes)
Thanks go to DW for keeping Seatplans.com abreast of developments
