Le Meridien enters Dhaka in 2013
Dhaka will receive its second Starwood property when Le Meridien opens in July 2013, joining the existing Westin Dhaka.
The nature of the hotels will be different, with Le Meridien intended to cater more to a more corporate clientele, Business Traveller was told.
“While Westin embodies modern luxury and is centered around wellbeing, Le Meridien is a chic and stylish brand that appeals to creative minds with an environment that stimulates dialogue,” said Nikhil Manchharam, vice president of acquisitions and development in India for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
Manchharam explained that Bangladesh’s robust role producing goods for export meant its capital city was drawing significant numbers of business travellers.
“The manufacturing base in Bangladesh continues to be strong,” he said. “It continues to be a competitive exporter. With Dhaka as the capital, there is significant corporate demand which is reflected in the healthy hotel performances.”
HSBC recently included Bangladesh amongst 26 economies, with China, India and several Latin American and African countries, where it expected business to grow significantly in the coming years.
Le Meridien Dhaka will occupy the eighth to the 15th floors of a new mixed-use development, offering panoramic views of Dhaka. Facilities include a 2,800 square-foot fitness center and a 2,400 square-foot spa and four F&B venues food and beverage venues.
The hotel will also feature its signature "Le Méridien Hub", which Starwood said transforms the traditional hotel lobby into a social gathering place where creative minds can converse, debate and exchange. Other elements available were specially curated artwork and music to stimulate the senses.
