Thomson Airways (airline code TOM) is the world's largest charter and budget airline. Originally founded as Britannia Airways in 1962, it was rebranded as Thomsonfly in 2005 and as Thomson Airways in November 2008 following its merger with First Choice Airways.
Thomson Airways is owned by Thomson's parent company Tui Travel, the German tour operating giant that owns the Thomson and First Choice brands plus many others. Thomson Airways has now fully absorbed First Choice Airways and rebranded all aircraft.
The combined Thomson Airways/First Choice Airways flies 77 aircraft to more than 80 destinations from 22 UK airports.
As First Choice Airways, the airline led the way in providing a standard 33-inch seat pitch in long-haul - two inches more than Virgin Atlantic or British Airways. Long-haul aircraft also offer a premium cabin with at least a 36-inch pitch.
The long-haul experience will be further enhanced when Thomson Airways takes delivery of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. These enter service on July 8 2013, flying to Florida and Cancun.
Thomson also now offers increased leg room on its Boeing 757 fleet used on short and medium-haul routes. Two rows of seats are being removed to give extra room.
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: Help us to improve these pages. On your return, rate your flight (the button to the left).
The most informative reviews each month win some fabulous prizes, and you will also be helping your fellow travellers.
Tell us which is the best seat, what the service was like and whether you'd fly with Thomson again.
Many thanks. Tom Otley, enquiries@seatplans.com
