Garuda Indonesia (airline code GA) is the national carrier of Indonesia, based in the country's capital Jakarta.
It was founded in 1949 as Garuda Indonesian Airways, and since then has built a reputation for providing cheap fares on long haul routes.
Garuda was set to make a return to the UK in 2013 with a service to London Gatwick.
Garuda was floated on the Jakarta Stock Exchange in 2011. Its initial shareholder composition was the Government of Indonesia (69.14%), PT Angkasa Pura I (1.10%), PT Angkasa Pura II (1.78%), company employees (0.44%), domestic investors (23.94%), and overseas investors (3.60%).
Garuda Indonesia serves international and domestic destinations from its main hub and base of operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. It has a secondary hub at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali.
