British Airways is now installing a new First class product. According to BA, the new seat will have between 55-60 per cent more personal space than the old product.
The new seat has been fitted to the majority of the B777s that feature First class, and also on the majority of the B747s. Until then...
Notes on the current seat
How can you improve on the flat-bed Club World product? That is the problem BA attempts to solve with the First cabin. The answer comes in the exclusivity of the cabin, the service (crew receive special training for First duty) and the product itself, from the seat to the meal service and the lounges on the ground.
First class was last refurbished in February 2007. The seat converts into a 6’6” fully flat bed, making use of an ottoman which is substantial enough as a seat for a travelling companion if you want to dine together.
AVOD is being fitted to all of these aircraft so the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) offering is the same as you would receive in economy. If the aircraft is still flying with the old IFE system you have a choice of the old 12 or 18-channel system, and either a DVD on the B777 aircraft or, after a successful trial, an iPad.
Accessories include an Anya Hindmarch-designed toiletry bag filled with D.R. Harris & Co toiletries. There is also a ‘turndown service’ meaning you don't have to make your own bed when you want to sleep. The bed is made up with a mattress cover, duvet, pillow and pyjamas.

AllOverTheGaff flew British Airways First, on a B747-400 High J
1) Boarding: Reasonable walk to gate and then at the back of long queue. I’m ‘checked in’ again but given no priority, which annoys me. Standing aboard the sky-bridge, I see a sign for 1st class and branch off to the left. 2) Cabin Ambience: So, I already know this is an OLD First, but even still, there should be ways of making this experience a special one. So far so... more

TominScotland flew British Airways First, on a B747-400 Mid J
I connected from T5 for this flight to Bangkok and, although running late, made it to Gate 32 in plenty of time, arriving at 21.30 for my 22.05 flight, being assured that my transfer baggage was en route from T5 and had already been checked at T3. Priority boarding swas me as on of the first passengers aboard and I made my way to 12J, the second row of WT+. I had only... more
