Economy offers a 31 or 32-inch seat pitch. Passengers on international flights get free food, soft and hot drinks.

Seats on Boeing 767-300ER, 757-200, some 767-400ER and some 777-200 aircraft have five-inch seatback TVs with on demand entertainment.

Other 777-200s are being upgraded with Panasonic touch screen monitors. Boeing 767-200ERs do not have on demand systems and there is a choice of eight films.

Boeing 747-400s have old fashioned overhead screens. On these aircraft, United plans to introduce a streaming option, enabling passengers to watch films on computer or handheld devices.

Was flying from Heathrow-San Francisco. Had heard horror stories about United's transatlantic services so was apprehensive about flying them.
