Thomas Cook's long-haul aircraft are getting a makeover, with the very cramped, one-class cabin being replaced by a two-class product across the fleet. The good news is that the new basic product on wide-bodied aircraft is better than scheduled carriers in terms of legroom. From April 2009, all Thomas Cook Airlines' long-haul flights on Boeing 767s and Airbus A330s will offer a basic 33-inch seat pitch, two inches more than British Airways or Virgin Atlantic.
On the narrow-bodied Boeing 757s operated for Canadian Affair, seat pitch throughout is an excellent 35 inches.
All long-haul flights include food, but getting a good seat will cost a lot extra.
Seating a family of four together, with seats numbers given out at the airport, will cost £54.
If you bought your ticket through a tour operator and want to choose your seat online, that will cost a family £40. If you bought just the air fare, the price rises to a hefty £94.
Exit seats are an extra £100 return per adult.
