They had a special on and a week before the flight their fare was better than Jetstars for the flight to Darwin. We did the Webcheckin and on arrival at Changi quite a few hours before the flight departed they were open and we could check in.
The FAs were good with a genuine smile and their service was better than our previous flight on Malaysia Airlines. They came around often with drinks and the meal offered was quite good. Seats were the standard as on most economy flights.
The flight departed on time and so was arrival give or take a few minutes. Customs and Immigration at Darwin proceeded smoothly though we had some food items to declare, but it was no problem. They now have one flight during the day which may be a good option if travelling beyond Singapore as Jetstar arrives a little late to connect with many overseas flights. Generally Silk Air prices are considerably higher than Jetstar's which do fluctuate widely.

Flew business class on 3 Jan 2012 with Silkair on MI 966 from SIN to SZX departing at 1220 hrs. Arrived T2 early around 0900 hrs as I have a shopping list on hand. Check-in was quick as there was no queue at the business class counter.
Did some durty shopping and headed to Silverkris lounge around 0945 hrs. The business class section was on the left of the reception(as you head towards the reception and the first class section on the right. Food spread was good with both local and western favours. Good selection of papers and magazines were available but couldn't find "Time"" or Economist" on the rack. It was good to find washrooms and shower facilities within the lounge.
There was no boarding annoucement in the lounge so I had check with the staff on the boarding time. Boarding was commenced at 1250 as I found out and I headed to gate E6 for boarding. When I reached the gate after clearing security, boarding just commenced and I proceeded to board the plane. My seat selected was 1D from a seating configuration of 2-2 comprising 3 rows for this cabin. Seat wise not much to expect from a B320 short haul. Opted water for pre-flight drink. A selection of local papers were offered this cabin passengers followed by a good selection of magazines. Cabin service was good. Lunch was either chicken rice or snapper. I selected snapper. Dessert was chocolate cake. I was delighted that they have potato chips for snacks in addition to the usual assorted nuts. My wine was promptly top-up.
Plane landed quite on time. Immigration (no queues) and baggage was quick.

This review relates to my flight from Singapore to KLIA. I arrived by taxi at terminal 2 at Changi early for my flight to KL and was checked in without waiting in a queue.
I had tried to check-in on line but had not managed to change my middle seat allocation or to print my boarding pass. I was kindly offered a a better seat, with an emergency exit seat released for my use. I was also asked about my FF numbers - alas, as of the 1st of the month, my bmi Gold card is valueless with Silkair/ SIA but I knew this. My bag was processed efficiently.
I went through Immigration and settled in for my wait in the tranquil terminal surroundings. The Gate opened one hor before departure but there was no aircraft there yet. The inbound arrived some 30 minutes before departure so we borded late, in a generally orderly fashion. 10F gave me plenty of leg room which was nice.
The Captain came on to apologise for the delay and to announce a 50 minute flying time to 'Lumpur' - first time I have heard this abbreviation!! We took off some 20 minutes late. Service was a choice of tea/ coffee, water or juice, offered with efficiency and a smile.
We landed 20 minutes late and taxied to the gate where disembarkation was quick although the cabin crew held economy passengers back until Business Class had well cleared the airbridge. The arrival gate necessitated the monorail ride into the main terminal and Immigration was efficient - no pointless immigration cards to fill in any more!!
My luggage was waiting when I got through and I was on the KLIA Ekpress within 30 minutes of landing. An efficient and well run service.

The real test for any airline is how one finds the experience in flying Economy and not Business class.
For an airline which is second cousin to Singapore Airlines and accorded all the routes which its more famous cousin prefers not to service, Silkair is not have bad.
One really needs to calibrate expectations with the service which one is paying for. The Economy service on many full-service airlines pale in comparison with that on Silkair.
My main grouse on flying Silkair economy is the insufficient number of washrooms - no fault of their airline since that's how the aircraft is configured.
Silkair's flight attendants tend to crack the whip more judiciously with passengers who attempt to use the washrooms when the seat-belt sign comes on (and I can remember a flight when it practically did not come off during the entire duration). Short of wrestle with passengers to take their seats (bloated bladders nothwithstanding), Silkair's flight attendants tend to be quite draconian in this regard. Only my mother in law is worse!

From my experience and from opinion from my nearest family members, Silkair being a budget airline has high flight fares. It is costlier than many national airways. This airline had cheaper deals when introduced. But now ticket fares have been raised.
The flight journey is not confortable. It is too crammed interior. The food served is also not good. My mother who asked for a vegeterian meal was served just with noodles for dinner. This flight has hardly any space to walk inside.
This airline has direct flights to destinations where other airlines do not have direct flights. That is the only benefit I see with this airline. Overall a total suffocation and a total dissatisfaction is the end result of my journey with this airlines.
I will never recommend this airline to anyone. It is in no way comparable to any other airline that I have travelled so far.

Having been flying with Silkair for several times,I find that the best seats are those in the very front row of the economy class. The Emergency seats are also as good, however, passengers are not allowed to put their sling bags,or small carry on bags on the floor. Instead, they must be kept in the cabin baggage storage, making it less pleasant if there is important stuff inside your bags. The worst seat for me is the last row. It's busy and noisy around there due to the toilet, also the staffs. Also, they are not reclinable, and not to mention the newspapers that are put below your seats! I also wonder why they do not play d short movie anymore nowadays, something that they used to do some time ago.

Comfortable with a lovely meal. FAs fairly businesslike and did not really want to chat. Personal DigEPlayer was better than I expected, not having bothered to use one before.
