Qatar has four Airbus A340-600 aircraft. They are wide-body jets with four engines.
The A340 seats 266 passengers in a three class configuration (216 economy, 42 business and eight first class passengers). It is used extensively on the Heathrow-Doha route plus others including Doha-Hong Kong. Some currently have a lounge area in First Class, but these are being removed to provide more seating.
When it was first introduced, the A340-600 aircraft's long range was popular with airlines, but the increase in the price of oil and problems with the heavy weight of the aircraft (reducing cargo ability) means it has lost out to others, such as the Boeing 777-200LR and B777-300ER.
