Mexicana (airline code MX) flew to around 50 destinations in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean along with 26 domestic routes. It had two domestic subsidiaries, Mexicana Click, which has a fleet of Fokker 100 and Boeing 717 aircraft and Mexicana Link, which operates CRJ200 jets.

An update on the status of Mexicana Airlines, which ceased operations in 2010, from the carrier's website:

"Confident that Mexicana Airlines has what it takes to begin operating again, investors have submitted a series of proposals for the capitalization of the airline, which are currently being evaluated. The company continues developing a policy to further assist customers who purchased tickets with Mexicana and would like to utilize them for future transportation. This is in addition of what is required under applicable laws.

At Mexicana we keep working confident we will have the pleasure of serving you again. We appreciate your understanding and will keep you informed of any new developments.

Ownership

Mexicana was set up in 1921 by two US investors. It is now owned by Mexican hotel chain Grupo Posadas, which bought the airline from the Mexican government in 2005. The airline ceased operations in 2010.

Route Network

Mexicana is based at Mexico City's International airport. The airline's route network is mainly in the Americas and the Caribbean, but in 2009 it began flying to Europe. A service to London Gatwick was begun in early 2009, which was followed by another to Madrid in February 2009.

Other Information

From 2009, Mexicana flew as part of the oneworld alliance.

Mexicana's fleet mainly comprises modern Airbus short-haul aircraft, but it has two older Boeing 767s that it uses on the London and Madrid routes.
