Lufthansa's new first class flat bed took to the skies in April 2011, initially on ten refitted B747-400s before being rolled out across the entire B744 fleet.
The innovative new seats, essentially a chair with a bed next to it (see pictures), replaced the current first class offering on the upper deck of Lufthansa's jumbo jets. Capacity on the upper deck went from 16 (2-2 in four rows) to just eight (1-1 in four rows). The bed replaced the current window seats.
