Finnair (airline code AY) is the largest airline and flag carrier of Finland.

Finnair's major shareholder is the Finnish government with a 55.8 per cent holding.

The airline's hub is at Helsinki-Vantaa airport from where it flies to European and long-haul destinations, particularly to Asia, where the Helsinki hub has the advantage of being the closest to the polar route, the shortest way to destinations like Tokyo.

The carrier's frequent flier programme is called Finnair Plus. The airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance.

Finnair has a new aircraft order pending. From late 2015 it will introduce 11 brand new Airbus A350s, the latest extra wide body twin jet. These will be used on its Asian routes, replacing the four engine A340s. As an interim measure, all but two of these aircraft will be refurbished with the latest lie-flat business class seating.
