Finnair

Finnair, a member of the Oneworld alliance, is one of the world's oldest operating airlines, having been established on 1st November, 1923. Its operations focus on transporting passengers between Europe and Asia, via Helsinki.

Route network

In recent years, Finnair has emerged as a major player in traffic between Europe and Asia. Finnair's intercontinental destinations in Asia include Delhi and Mumbai in India, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou in China, Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in Japan and Bangkok in Thailand. Finnair will launch flights to Seoul in South Korea in spring 2008.

Finnair's European route network offers several daily frequencies to all major European cities. Timetables are built in such a way that the offer quick connections to the Asian flights. Finnair's newest scheduled destinations in Europe are Ljubljana, Bucharest, Gdansk and Lisbon. Finnair also flies to 14 destinations within Finland.

Fleet

The Finnair fleet comprises 63 aircraft. The long-haul fleet will be renewed in the coming years with Airbus A340, A330, and starting 2014, new technology Airbus A350XWB aircraft.

In June 2007 Finnair took delivery of its first two new Airbus A340 aircraft. Two more will join the fleet in 2008. The long-haul fleet renewal will mean the retirement of the Boeing MD-11 aircraft by the end of March 2010.

Finnair already operates one of Europe's youngest and most eco-efficient narrow-body fleets. The average age of aircraft in European traffic is four years. It comprises 29 Airbus A320 family aircraft, ten Embraer 170s and Embraer 190s of which there will be a total of nine in the fleet in coming years.

At the start of the next decade, Finnair will be operating only three types of aircraft in scheduled traffic: wide-bodied Airbus will serve longh-haul destinations and the narrow-bodied Airbus A320s and Embraer 170/190s short range destinations. Leisure flights are operated with Boeing 757s.

Almost nine million passengers

During the calendar year 2007 Finnair carried a total of  8 653 200 passengers.

A total of 7 457 800 passengers were carried on scheduled passenger traffic routes and 1 700 600 on domestic routes. The number of charter passengers was 1 195 400.
