Update March 9 2010: Continental has announced that is to charge for economy seats with extra legroom, giving its passengers the option to reserve the seats at check-in at a cost. For more on this see BusinessTraveller.com (link below).

Economy seat pitch on Continental's long-haul aircraft is either 31 or 32 inches depending on aircraft type.

On the flagship Boeing 777, pitch is 31 inches, in line with most rivals, as it is on 757-200s. On Boeing 767s used on continental routes, pitch is an inch more generous, as it is on 757-300s.

IFE

Entertainment systems and laptop power facilities also vary according to aircraft. The 777s have seatback video screens offering either the new AVOD system, with 250 films, 300 TV programmes and 150 CDs or the older-style IFE with only eight video and 20 audio channels. In Economy, the screen measures 9 inches and features touch-screen or handset controls. AVOD will be fitted to all 777s by the end of 2008 and all 767s from 2010.

AVOD is currently being installed on 757-200 aircraft used on transatlantic routes.

Laptop Power

On 777s, the first few rows of Economy offer laptop power outlets, as do selected rows on the 767-400s. The 757-200 offers laptop power for seats ahead of the overwing exits. There are generally two outlets for each three-seat row and one outlet for each two-seat row in Economy class.

Our flight, CO89, was from Newark Liberty to Beijing Capital, in Continental's new Economy Seats. CHECK-IN: Newark Liberty's check-in counters are all self-service, meaning that there is only one or two Continental representatives in one whole row of Check-in counters, which can get a bit annoying when you have check-in baggages. The line was quite long for both... more

A great flight if you want cheap tickets. The seats were fine, there were about 5cm from my knees to the seat in front of me, and I'm 190cm. more
