Austrian (airline code OS), is Austria's flag carrier based at Vienna airport. It began flying in March 1958 and has a fleet of 98 aircraft. Austrian also has a secondary base at Innsbruck airport.
Route Network
Austrian flies to 120 destinations and has built a particularly strong network of routes to Eastern Europe where it claims market leadership with 45 destinations.
Ownership
Lufthansa bought a 41.56% stake in Austrian in December 2008 and announced its intention to mount a full takeover bid. The deal is subject to approval by the European Commission, which was due to make a decision by summer 2009. Lufthansa, which also owns Swiss International Air Lines, intends to keep the Austrian name and hubs.
Other Information
Austrian joined the Star Alliance in 2000 and took over the majority of the shares in Lauda Air in 2001. The Lauda name survives as a charter brand.
The Austrian Airlines Group comprises Austrian, Lauda Air and the regional and domestic carrier Austrian arrows (operated by Tyrolean).
