Arik Air (airline code W3) is a privately-owned airline based in Lagos, Nigeria. Its main hubs are the international airports at Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria's capital.
Ownership
Arik Air was set up in October 2002 by businessman Sir Arumemi-Ikhide with a single Hawker jet following the liquidation of Nigeria Airways, the national carrier. Arik Air took over the offices of Nigeria Airways in 2006 and begun filling the gap in the market for a fully Nigerian-owned carrier following the delivery of a small fleet of aircraft that initially flew domestically. It now operates a fleet of 23 aircraft, some of them operated under leasing arrangements.
Route Network
Arik Air has an extensive domestic network and also flies to Accra in Ghana. A service to London Heathrow was launched in December 2008 using aircraft and crew from Portuguese leasing company Hifly.
