LiamFullerton flew Air New Zealand Economy (short haul), on a Beechcraft 1900D (16/04/2013 03:31)

I am a frequent Air New Zealand Customer. I fly on the Beechcraft 1900D around four times a month. The Air NZ 1900D has 19 seats in a 1+1 configuration. Seats, 1F, 2A and 2F have no windows. Seats 5F, 7A and 7F have emergency exit windows. Air NZs 1900Ds also have a small loo in the rear of the AC. Some flights operated by the 1900D by Air New Zealand are nearly 2hrs long.

This review is on flight NZ2755 from Auckland to Wanganui, a flight of 45minutes. Boarding was called late, and I made my way from the Koru Lounge out to the aircraft. I had seat 3A which along with 3F, 4A and 4F are for premium Star Alliance and Air NZ members only. We took off ten minutes late after a short safety briefing from the First Officer. It was a miserable day and the only entertainment was the book you might ave brought on board with you and the in flight magazine. There is no inflight service on the 1900D. We landed a little late and taxied to Wanganuis small but functional terminal. Baggage took forever to arrive to the self claim area. I fly on the 1900Ds 4times per month.

Contrary to SeatPlan, there is no business class on domestic. The front row on left side does not have entertainment and feet clash with door access, so board last if in these seats.

Seats not really comfortable for anything except sitting for 1 hour flight. Leather is nice, but the shape conforms to some alien body shape. No headrests.

Food service is grand (if at front of plane) with cheese selection if in Koru Hour.
Luggage is slow as is containerised and requires more effort at each end than a Boeing 737.
Flight is smooth though with less "bounce", especially when landing in Welington's formidable Northerlies.

Note that seat 1F does NOT have a window, contrary to SeatPlan website. However this seat DOES have views out the front past the pilot (bonus) and does not have carry on storage. You are at the mercy of whether the plane is full or not as there are no overheads.

Best seats are at rear of plane from row 9 as these offer best views.
Take earplugs or noise cancelling headphones.
No service as flights are relatively short and no room for steward service.
Luggage limited. Carry on definately to be not oversize and heavy cases may be delayed travel if plane is overloaded.
Toilet is "cosy" so go before you fly.

BryanCleaver flew Air New Zealand Economy (short haul), on a A320 (16/09/2012 23:36)

Air New Zealand gave us a great flight! We departed Auckland on time, destination Sydney. Having a completely full flight, the boarding was efficient and quick. While managing out bookings beforehand, we upgraded to The Works package which was well worth the $35. It allowed us a meal and unlimited beverages during the trip. With our airfare, we were allowed on piece checked up to 23kg and for an additional $15 was able to bring my skis and excess baggage up to another 23kg. The service was top notch, the seat back screen allowed you to order and within 2 minutes your beverage came. The inflight entertainment was vast made the flight go very quickly. The seat was average and comfortable for economy, enough space to work on a computer or eat. Fantastic experience and would recommend.

NTarrant flew Air New Zealand Economy (short haul), on a B737-300 (05/01/2012 07:53)

This was a domestic service between AKL and WLG. Check-in is completely automated. Scanning barcode on eticket, a series of screens take you through options, which also gives you the opportunity to change your flight. We had arrived early for our 1440 flight and were able to change to the 1330. The machine produces your luggage labels and boarding passes. Instructions are easy to follow. Luggage then placed on a continuous moving belt.

Security was relaxed and cheerful staff. Getting to gate a short walk and the gate area also the same area for two other gates. Boarding was a little late and a number of staff were standing around chatting. There appeared to be a number of cabin crew travelling passenger.

Boarding was relatively quick with passengers seated in window seats and their companions being asked forward first. No greeting by name but pleasant all the same. Seats 9EF were comfortable and ample leg room.

In flight service consisted of being offered a bag of crisps or chocolate biscuit or jelly planes. We had the crisps and jelly planes, both very acceptable. Beverages offered were tea, coffee or water. Service was quick and efficent.

Quiz was shown on tv screen with questions shown and then answers after a few seconds, helped pass the time.

Baggage arrived fairly quickly and all intact. Overall a good experience.

Flew Air NZ with our 6 month old in February 2010. Requested a basinet seat in advance, and despite a relatively empty flight, Air NZ seated a traveller next to us so as to squash 3 adults and an infant in one row. Cabin crew were very umsympathetic and blamed ground crew. Certainly not an airline (or perhaps just this sector) when travelling with infants.

On a Flight Sydney - Auckland Economy Class, as koru member (FF Club) i got seated in Sëats+, extra Economy space (35") for no extra cost, The new entertainment touch screens are excellent as you can use them from the moment you board untill the moment you leave the aircraft! Gone of the days when the entertainment system finished 1/2 hr before you landed! Food very good for lunch time in economy, flight left on time, flight arrived early! very clean aircraft and Very nice happy & helpfull crew! Bags ready before I got there!Very happy!
